Singer/songwriter Angie Johnson has been invited to sing “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch of game six of the MLB World Series tonight in Kansas City. Angie, who is also a Tech Sergeant in the Tennessee Air National Guard, will sing in uniform. The game and Angie’s performance will be aired on FOX-TV. This is her second World Series appearance, as she performed the hallowed song at game five of the 2013 World Series in St. Louis.

“I am honored to be able to represent my brothers and sisters in arms by singing ‘God Bless America’ at the World Series,” said Angie. “It’s a privilege and not something I take lightly.”

Earlier this year, Angie was invited by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History to lend her voice in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the national anthem and the flag that inspired it. She supported the celebration by recording her own unique rendition of the anthem, where it is now featured atanthemforamerica.si.edu.

Angie albumABOUT ANGIE JOHNSON: Singer, songwriter and Air National Guard Tech Sergeant, Angie Johnson, began her military career as an intelligence analyst in the United States Air Force. She later toured as a vocalist with the prestigious Tops In Blue performance group. Following the year-long tour, she was recruited into the Air Force Band as a full-time vocalist. She was honorably discharged after fulfilling her active duty commitment and then transitioned into the Missouri Air National Guard’s 571st Air Force Band, as a vocalist in their Top 40 element, Sidewinder. Angie was deployed with Sidewinder to the Middle East, where the band gave an impromptu performance for a small group of troops. An audience member recorded Angie’s rendition of Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” and posted the video on YouTube, where it went viral. The now-famous video has received more than 3.9 million views and can be seen here. Television host Carson Daly saw the video, tracked Angie down via Twitter and invited her to audition for NBC’s “The Voice,” where she became a contestant on Team Cee Lo. Her debut EP, Sing For You, May 21, 2013, and her infectious single, “Swagger,” hit the Top 20. She opened for Scotty McCreery’s “Weekend RoadTrip Tour” through the fall of 2013, and the Air Force invited her to be a featured vocalist on Tops In Blue tour of the Middle East over Christmas last year.
